On Rescheduling the Park Screening of Frozen by Ruth Reyes

Dear Town of Miami Lakes,

I know that I’m too old to complain about this – seeing as half the children my age were playing basketball, or exercising, instead of competing against five year-olds for better seats – but I would appreciate it if the Frozen screening at Miami Lakes West Park was rescheduled — quickly.

As you can probably guess, I, along with many little girls and boys, arrived at the park expecting to watch the movie. I didn’t think that a seventeen year-old amidst a sea of elementary kids was weird at all; I just wanted to sing along to all the songs of the movie. Prior to the screening, Julissa, Sana – two of my friends – and I, prepared our vocal cords with a basket full of water bottles to help us through each Elsa solo. Does the fact that the screening was canceled mean that my all my efforts were in vain? That I tried so hard for no reason at all?

I clearly remember asking my mom to break a couple of traffic rules in order to arrive on time for the movie. By seven forty-five I thought I’d missed my two favorite songs: Do You Want to Build a Snowman? and For the First Time in Forever. These are the first two songs that the Oscar winning film features (because nobody actually cares about Something Heart), but of course, I was right on time because the movie hadn’t even started playing. I’m not complaining really, but that doesn’t mean that I appreciate the fact that two hours after the starting time, and three preview runs later, the movie had still not played.

We all watched the sky grow darker and watched the moon disappear behind the clouds. It was a good time – I hung out with my friends and had fun eating Nutella coated strawberries – but that ended quickly after little rain droplets started to make my hair frizzy and unattractive.

The disappointment I felt after sitting in the grass for three and a half hours and not being able to watch Frozen was almost as bad as Anna’s disappointment when she found out Hans was a world-class a-hole. The screen never really got past the first song – which I soon found out was Frozen Heart not Something Heart – and it was too late to do anything somewhere else with the peeps. I think the only reason why I didn’t drop to the ground and roll like a three year-old throwing a temper tantrum is because the announcer said that the screening would be rescheduled for soon after. Well, that soon after has yet to come. Therefore, I would really appreciate the dear town of Miami Lakes – my home town – to have a date posted on their website, where it specifies a time and date for the new reorganized Frozen screening.

Sincerely,

Ruth Reyes & many Frozen fans

P.S. I must commend the event, however, for it provided an opportunity for friendship bonding. Who knew frustration could bring people so tightly together as it did with those who attended the event?
