Mother’s Day Gift Ideas! by Maria Vasquez

It’s May, which means Mother’s Day is right around the corner. It can be pretty hard to please your mother on a regular day, let alone on a day where children’s single goal across the nation is to make their mothers smile. It’s a challenge, but it’s not impossible. And, if you’re broke, clueless, or both, don’t worry; here are a few ideas to help you this upcoming Sunday.

If you have no sense of direction and haven’t got the slightest clue of what to get your mom,

Then it’s time to sit down and think of the things she likes. Last time she was driving you somewhere, what song was she singing? When you were at the mall, what things did she stop at and admire? What has she been liking or sharing on Facebook? What’s her favorite TV Show?

If you waited until last minute to get your mom a gift,

Take a walk with your dog to the nearest guy selling flowers on the street. Make a quick trip to the dollar store and buy the nicest card they have, and try to get whatever chocolate that at least looks somewhat appetizing. If there is no time to go anywhere, look for old and recent photos you have with your mom and make a collage. Post it on Instagram and on her Facebook wall with a nice, long, and sincere caption.

If you’re broke as a joke,

Get crafty. Crafty doesn’t mean making a book of coupons which all ‘expire’ in a month. Get a pack of construction paper, use all of her favorite colors, and make a large poster filled with her favorite quotes, sayings, pictures, and celebrities. Make origami hearts and random birds and put it around the house. Write something you love about her in each of them.

Wake up early on Sunday and prepare a breakfast for her: Get a few slices of bread and cut a heart in the middle of each of them. Then, toast them on a skillet or pan and cook an egg in the each heart. Make her ‘café con leche’ and serve it with the toast and some fruit.

If you have some money to spend,

Two words: Edible Arrangements. This is especially good for those of you who are not in town or don’t live near your mothers. They sell chocolate-covered fruit in beautiful designs. It ranges anywhere from $25 to $160, but it’s definitely worth it, and your mom can take pictures of the gift for bragging rights! If you want to spend a little less, you can always go to Charming Charlie’s for iPhone cases, jewelry, nail polishes, and purses or Victoria Secret for lotions, perfumes, make up, or cute totes.

If you have a lot of money to spend,

Pandora is the place to go. They currently have a special gift sale for  a Mother’s Day Gift Set and it’s around $200. It comes with a limited edition heart charm ($85, separately), a bangle or a bracelet ($75 or $85, separately) and two clips ($65 each, separately). You save about $50 in total than if you would have bought the items individually. Just remember that anything you get her from Pandora will be great and so will anything you get her at all, as long as it shows how much you love and appreciate her.
