Hot Girl Summer Wave

Hot Girl Summer Wave

This August, Hot Girl Summer completely took over the social media scene. You couldn’t even scroll through your twitter feed without seeing the phrase, accompanied by videos of people having summertime fun.

There’s one person solely responsible for this pop-culture movement – Megan Pete, better known as MeganThee Stallion. The term ‘Hot Girl Summer’ has become so popular that even brands such as Forever 21 and Wendy’s have attempted capitalizing off tit, urging Megan to immediately trademark the catchphrase.

Some people may be confused about what the term Hot Girl Summer means or what the requirements are to become a “hot girl”, but the answer is simple.

In order to be a “hot girl”, all you need to do is be your true, authentic self and live your best life. Whether it’s engaging in your favorite hobby, partying with your friends, or immersing yourself in the ultimate self-care; a Hot Girl Summer can be whatever you want it to be.

It’s just basically about women—and men—being unapologetically them, just having a good-ass time, hyping up your friends, doing you, not giving a damn about what nobody got to say about it,” Pete told the Root.

It’s all about feeling good, going on your own, audacious pursuit of happiness.

“Hot Girl Summer is women embracing themselves. They don’t need any man to tell them they look good, because they know they look good,” said Ceylon Phillips, a student at Miami Lakes Educational Center.

However, it’s not only about being self-confident but also about having a fun time.

“Hot Girl Summer is you living your best life every day — partying and hangin’ out with friends,” said Tyeshia Jenkins, an MLEC student, while happily reminiscing about her past summer vacation.

And the cherry on top of the most popular summer movement would have to be  Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj’s long-awaited collaborative single, Hot Girl Summer.

The music video released September 3rd and it couldn’t be even more perfect.

Megan Thee Stallion’s pool party was definitely a prominent moment for women empowerment, with other upcoming female artists such as Rico Nasty and Ari Lennox appearing in entertaining cameos while “driving the boat”. Another term popularized by Megan Thee Stallion, which involves drinking deuce as a pre-party turn-up to really get things going.

The music video was adorned by vividly-striking neon green clothing, zebra print patterns, cowboy hats, and Megan’s precious French Bulldog “4oe Thee Frenchie.” Along with lively women having fun with their friends and dancing to their hearts’ content underneath the night sky.

Simply watching the video would make one want to call their homegirls up for a night on the town.

Unfortunately, not everything good lasts forever. With school having already made its loathed arrival, most students’ “hot girl summer” memories have been left to gather dust and replaced with essay deadlines, powerpoint presentations, and math quizzes.

However, there’s a new academic movement on the rise — Hot Girl Semester.

With Megan Thee Stallion being a college student herself, she knows how difficult it can be to balance both demanding school assignments and fun social life, and her own school work has motivated her fans to prioritize their education and get good grades too.

“Hot Girl Semester does motivate me, because just like how you hit up them parties over the summer — you need to hit them books”, said Tyeshia Jenkins.

When trying to have a Hot Girl Semester, one thing you definitely don’t need is stress. By prioritizing your schoolwork, completing assignments, and studying, you’ll be a “hot girl” all year long.

Megan’s music hypes us up.

“Her music gives me energy and confidence. I listen to her when I’m running or just doing my homework,” said Genesis Gilles, a senior.
