The class of 2021 has always put one foot forward when it comes to giving their class the top of the line high school experience.
They were the first class to introduce and successfully have a freshman class field trip; the first class to have an extra vibrant class paw, and now, they are the first class to introduce the idea of having “Junior J’s.”
“The letter J is supposed to represent us Juniors, but since we’re Jaguars too, it works both ways,” said Raymond Hung, Class of 2021 President.
“I saw that the idea was also spread throughout other high schools around our area like Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School and Mater Lakes Academy. Due to this, I thought that my officers and I could also incorporate this or try to get the students to take part in a class spirit activity such as the addition of us decorating our J’s,” Hung continued.
This highly unexpected announcement was made this week. Juniors had the opportunity to decorate a “Junior J” to proudly wear during MLEC’s first pep rally of the year.
A “Junior J” is a cutout of the letter J that is decorated and designed to represent one’s interests. As the junior class now places these cutouts around their necks, the fancy-decorated and intricately made “J’s” have to come to symbolize something greater than class spirit — these “Junior J’s” also symbolize the class of 2021’s move into upperclassmen territory in the eyes of others.
“This Junior J is one of the ways that we are able to show our school spirit by expressing it in a fun, exciting, and creative style. When MLEC’s annual homecoming pep rally approaches, we will start selling blank Junior J’s for our class to decorate on their own, just like senior crowns in homecoming,” said the Vice President of the class of 2021, Karen Laverde.
But, before the homecoming pep rally occurs, the back to school pep rally has lead the juniors to strode inside with their “J’s” and showed the other classes that they are full of great class attitude. With their blue banner held high and their chins upright, they claimed their spots on the “upperclassmen side” of the gymnasium.
Hung’s final utterance at the pep rally was “I’m super excited to see the outcome.”
