Miami Lakes Educational Center enjoyed an exceptional school year.

It was named the nation’s best Magnet School, earned a STEM designation, its students won various individual accolades, and many of its extra-curricular clubs won national awards. Jaguars simply went above and beyond expectations this past academic year.

So when Florida school grades were released and MLEC was named an “A” school for the 12th year, the news did not come as a surprise. For jaguars, it seems, there’s always a new milestone to achieve.

“This is the twelfth year that MLEC is an A school. Clearly, it’s a special place,” said English Department Chair, Ms. Neyda Borges. “Each year, our kids shine. They learn, they achieve, and they prepare to take on the college and career world. Test scores and school grades just show that MLEC truly is the best place to be.”

Every year at MLEC, students pull all-nighters doing their academy work, studying for their upcoming AP exams or AICE papers, working with diligence and perseverance as they excel through the academic year. Jaguars simply put all their sweat and tears into becoming the best students they can be, and under the strong leadership of our Top Jaguar, Ms. Lourdez Diaz, as well as of the faculty who dedicate all their work into exceeding expectations, MLEC was able to once again achieve this academic prestige.

“Year after year I continue to be impressed by our teachers and students and their collective drive to succeed,” said Principal Lourdes Diaz. “Excellence is never an accident; it is the result of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. I am so very proud of each and every one of them.”

MLEC is not only celebrating its own achievement as an “A” school though, the school is also celebrating its district, Miami-Dade County Public Schools.  For the second time, MDCPS was rated an “A” school district, and there were no “F” schools within the county for the third consecutive year — an enormous and impressive milestone for the county.

For us, MLEC’s jaguars, the title of  being an “A” school for the 12th year is just proof of something we already know: MLEC is truly the nation’s best. As the 2019-2020 school year is about to commence, one can only wonder what milestones MLEC will surpass.

“I’m so excited and proud to see the efforts made by our faculty and staff have paid off once again,” said Cambridge Academy Leader Ms. Evans DeSimone. “It’s not an easy task,” she continued. “We did it!”
