After an entire week of campaigning with dozens of posters, candies, and social media posts, a diverse range of forty brave students captured the crowd’s attention when walking on the stage to show why they deserve to uphold the positions for either their class or the Student Government Association (SGA).
The role of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer requires full responsibility towards their class, strong leadership roles, and great communication skills. These positions are not just titles. These individuals will all be representing their designated class and will be observed based on how much hard work, integrity and faithfulness they would be willing to put in.
On the day that all the candidates gave their speeches, the current seniors that uphold the SGA positions began with a goodbye message as they would be bestowing their role and training the upcoming officers. Their positions have helped them to experience incredible opportunities as they were able to work hand in hand with not only their fellow officers but with administration as well.
“We would like to give a special thanks to John Moffi. We wouldn’t have asked for a better sponsor” said SGA President Luis Armas.
When the anxiously awaited speeches by the candidates began, students sitting in the audience were engaged with every single word as they knew whomever they picked would greatly impact their latter half of the year that follows.
“It’s extremely important to vote for those who are qualified because there are so many things that you look forward to in the following year and so many events to be planned. In order for things to go smoothly, we all need to come together as a whole and pick the right candidate that will step up in order to fulfill our expectations towards what the school year will be like.” says Brenda Garcia, a sophomore who just finished voting for her class and SGA officers.
When the candidates stepped up to the podium, they each drew emphasis on different topics in their speech such as student opinion, their state of happiness at school, and a built in trust that personally connected them with the audience.
“Your opinion is my number one priority,” said Alfredo Suescum, a fellow junior running for next years position as SGA president.
But, as we await the final votes, the candidates—whether they win or lose—are all equally capable and have the power to carry out the responsibilities required for their running positions to represent their class.
