Every year at Miami Lakes Educational Center the junior class make a paw on the wall of our main cafeteria. The paw represents it being their last year before senior year; that the juniors will soon be looked up to by the rest of the school. This year the class of 2020 revealed theirs during lunch on Friday, August 24. The reaction and responses towards it were amazing and the 2020 class should be proud of what came out as the final product.
“I loved it! Especially the scratches and the art work within the scratches. Honestly the class did it. They shared with me their idea and I let them run with it and I just wanted to make sure it was appropriate. I let them be creative with it and I loved the details and all the artwork they put into it. It was a beautiful creative way of expressing themselves,” said Ms. Perez, class of 2020 sponsor.
That response was very common. The paw that 2020 came up with was beyond creative and they planned something that would not only make them stand out, but also represent their class as how they see themselves and want other people and classes to see them as.
“I think it’s really different. Congrats to them for doing something different and unexpected. I think that previous classes have followed an outline and kept the same tradition and the junior class thought outside the box and I commend them for it,” commented MLEC activities director Helena Castro.
Even other classes were surprised and had some kind of positive look at it.
“It was a very creative way of representing a paw and I think it’s really cool,” said Kathleen Obrer historian of the class of 2019.
The concept and theme of the paw was decided collectively by the class officers and the artists.
“We talked to the artists and they had some ideas so all the officers and the artists came to an agreement. As the design came to be we continued to make adjustments here and there,” said Natalia Reboredo, president of the class of 2020. “The scratches were something unique. The scratches are like looking into the future. The UFOS and the movie references of movies that look into the future. There’s a billboard saying ‘taking the throne’ and that happened because we wanted something funny as well, and purple means royalty so it all went together.”
The paw of the class 2020 certainly is unique and stands out from all the rest. It seems the class have definitely made their mark on this school
