Transitioning from Summer to School

Transitioning from Summer to School

By Rozany Guzman

There are only a few short weeks left of summer vacation. Soon, that early morning alarm will remind students across the county that it’s time to get up, and head back to school

That transition can be a sleepy one.

After weeks of going to bed late and sleeping in, it can be difficult to adjust to that early morning wake up call.

Here are some tips to help get ready and avoid carrying an extra set of bags under the eyes on the first day.

Start Going to Bed Earlier

When summer rolls around we can all stay up late and binge watch Netflix until sunrise, but when school starts, the whole idea must be tossed away. Most people wait until the night before school starts to readjust their sleeping schedule, but, as most of us know, it never works out. During the first week of school try to adjust a sleeping schedule to get eight hours of sleep every day. This can be a tough adjustment, so begin gradually. Set a morning alarm and go to bed half an hour earlier each night until you’re back to your school routine.

Get supplies early

Everyone knows the basic supplies necessary. Take advantage of the tax-free school supply holiday and stock up on pens, pencils, folders and loose-leaf paper. This is a great time to invest in a new calculator! Getting everything together early will help combat the stress of the first week of school when teachers hand out syllabi and supply lists.

Plan to succeed

Take some time to create some goals and a plan to achieve them. A new school year is a new opportunity to learn, make friends and prepare for the future. Think of what that future should look like and get to making it a reality.

Have fun

The summer is not over yet! Have fun, catch up with friends and get ready for a new and exciting school year
