Another school year has come to an end and with that another class graduates. Class of 2018, being MLEC’s 16th graduating class, have now been set to venture out into the real world.
On June 6th, a set of new alumni were released into the “wild” world to start their own lives. Each entered FIU’s arena with the identical classic white gowns but their hard work and dedication displayed through their multiple cords, stoles, and medallions made them all stand out as their own individuals.
Graduation opened with Ms. Borges, the Master of Ceremony, congratulating the class on their arrival to the day many of them have been dreaming of and wishing them the best of luck in the years to come. Later, Student Government President, Natasha Fernandez, stood in front of her class and rather than talking about them, she talked to them. Being someone who was involved in her class throughout the past four years, Natasha talked about the struggles and the times where the class was seen as inseparable—as a family. As the night continued Principal Diaz gave a few memorable and inspiring words to our new alumni for their new start.
Then the moment began where every student got their spotlight on stage, when their name was called amongst the crowd and where each walked with their own style and with their new life ahead of them.
Dealing with the stress of core classes and academy strand classes while joining clubs and juggling a social life into the mix, the class of 2018 finally made it to the finish line of their high school lives, some shall dare call it the beginning. Closing a chapter in their life where memories with friends have been stored and where successes and failures have been documented, the class now opens a new chapter; a chapter filled with more laughter; a chapter with many more successes and failures; a chapter with new faces and different lessons being taught. There’s life after high school and the class of 2018 is ready to explore it.
Some will become doctors, engineers, child care professionals, business workers, journalists, and a fraction will serve our country. Being filled with a blend of different characters, this class is one to remember. When first entering MLEC’s white and teal hallways and being the first class straying away for the traditional class colors to have pink represent them, we knew then that their pawprint would ingrain itself into MLEC’s history and into the world. Now, we wish them luck as they enter their new lives and wish them the best on their new journey.
