Junior Ring Ceremony For Dummies

Junior Ring Ceremony For Dummies

By Diana Rodriguez

After almost 3 turbulent high school years, our junior Jaguars are ready to receive their hard-earned rings. On March 22, Class of 2019’s family and friends will wait for them on the gym bleachers as they walk out in a single file line and take their seats. As their class officers, sponsors, and teachers make short, meaningful speeches, our students will think back on their last couple years of homework and exams. They will soon be seniors, but until then, this group of jaguars will have to dress for the occasion.

Taking into account various things – lighting, professionalism, comfortability – all students must be sure they wear something suited for them. If there is any one event you should dress remotely nice for, it’s this one! Your parents will expect you to take pictures, as will the Herff Jones photographers when you walk past them with your shiny, new ring.

Our lady jaguars may want to dress in tight-fitting outfits, but not only is this not necessary for a small school ceremony, it is also uncomfortable – especially when you walk or sit and have to keep pulling down the end of your dress. Different cut dresses are acceptable, such as those with fishtails (short in the front, long in the back) and those with bell-shaped or pleated skirts. If you want to arrive a bit more comfortably and look equally presentable, though, dress pants and a nice blouse are good too. Jumpers are also more popular recently, so get your hands on one if you think it’s the best option.

If you are going to make an appointment to do your hair, don’t do it too early or too late; too early and you may mess up the style, too late and you may not have time (or not like it). Doing your eyebrows is also suggested, as is doing your nails, though you can do both at home with some tweezers and nice press-on nails.

Heels! Remember they’re not just for matching your outfit, because you have to walk in these to your car, to the cafeteria, up the bleachers at the gym, and all the way back home! Know your limits. You wouldn’t want to test your luck walking up some steps in 6-inch pumps, where you may trip up and ruin your once-in-a-lifetime day.

Guys are a little easier to dress, but just as important. Dress shoes, dress pants, dress shirt. Check! What colors you want these articles to be are per-preference, but you can’t go wrong with matching blue to blue or black to black. Wearing a bow tie or necktie will give you a similar look, just make sure to tie it correctly and that it isn’t too short/long on you. Tucking in your shirt and wearing a nice belt is also suggested, giving you a well put together appearance.

Gauging whether or not you need a haircut depends on the person and their prefered length, so we will leave this up to you. Keep facial hair to a minimum, mainly because it just looks nicer. Don’t worry boys, it will grow back!

Colors aren’t too important, but coordinating with a few friends to dress in your red class color would make the night all the more memorable.

Good luck to all our juniors, and make sure to prepare accordingly. Your time is right around the corner.
