Art week began with bang as MLEC Jaguars were eager to join in on the activity of the day. A long strip of black paper reading “One Day I Will…” lay plastered upon the wall of third building. Students, as well as faculty and staff, wrote down their dreams and ambitions with chalk, spreading joy, and spreading good vibes. Whether they wrote “become a doctor” or “live in London,” the Jaguars all were able to share their biggest dreams with the rest of the school.

Day 2 of Art Week was Silhouette day which consisted of students trying to match the pose of cutouts taped onto the wall. For some poses, students had a hard time completing the challenge as they required a large amount of flexibility, like the cutout of someone doing a backbend or a half split. Nevertheless, everyone enjoyed taking pictures with friends and competing to see who can match the cut out the best.

Next up was Mime day where students volunteered to dress up as mimes and act out different scenes and emotions to the crowd in a game of charades. Students amongst the crowd tried their best to guess what the mimes were acting out as fast as they could.
“It was funny to see the mimes pull people out of the crowd and be apart of the show,” said Orlando Hill, Junior of MLEC.

On Day 4 of Art Week — Blind Contour/Drawing Day — volunteers drew students’ faces without looking at the paper. Long lines of students formed as they anxiously waited to have their caricature drawn. Faculty members also got involved and wowed everyone with their talent.
Would like to give a special thanks to all the volunteers who helped out today for #MLECArtWeek . It was exciting to have Ms. Soto & Mr. Aaron join us in today’s activity. Who knew Mr. Aaron knew how to draw!? pic.twitter.com/6kpHp9Fyj1

"I've been drawing all my life. . . [I had a speech impediment and] that was one of the things that used to calm me down because it made me so angry when I couldn't express my feelings," said Mr. Cochran. The final day of art week was Stick Dancing Day. Upon the grassy area of the courtyard were pairs of students dancing to the music as they aimed to keep the sticks placed in between their fingers from falling, making it a great way to end off the school week.
Alexis Reyes, a Junior at MLEC, stated, “I enjoyed this year’s Art Week. My favorite part was when I got my picture drawn. Hopefully we can do it again next year.”

Kiana Fairly, senior of MLEC and the student who organized all of Art Week’s activities, states “my favorite part about it was how everyone was able to bond and enjoy the activities together with their friends and peers. The entire week wore me out — I’m still recovering–however it was worth it.”
