The Return of Stranger Things

By Ericka Miller

After over a year of waiting, Stranger Things season two is finally here and will be released by Netflix today. October 27, 2017. The countdown for the season two premiere  is on, creating anticipation within millions who can’t wait to see what it beholds.

The season’s official synopsis states “A year after Will’s return, everything seems back to normal… but a darkness lurks just beneath the surface, threatening all of Hawkins.”

Picking up where it left off, Will returns to his home and friends around Halloween 1984, but he sees things that make him question whether it’s real or not. It’s said to be darker and scarier than the first season thanks to the introduction of a new monster, ‘the Shadow Monster.’

Apart from the stars of season 1 who will continue on in the series, four new characters have been added to the cast. One of them is Max, played by Sadie Sinx, a fourteen year-old “tomboy with a complicated history and a suspicious streak,” according to an article by Variety. Max will be the main focus of the new season’s first episode entitled ‘MadMax’. Billy, played by Dacre Montgomery, will be Max’s older step-brother, and might be the focus of the final episode of the series, ‘The Lost Brother’. He is also rumored to be the first human villain of the series.

“It was important to us to have a human villain in there that could disrupt the lives of our characters,” states Ross Duffer, the co-creator for Stranger Things.

Sean Astin will play Bob, a sweet former nerd who went to highschool with Joyce and Sheriff Hopper, and Paul Reiser who will play Dr. Owens, an employee of the Department of Energy who is hired to clean up the mess left behind after the events of the first season.

“Hopper’s daughter will be the primary focus of Season 2, but not in the way that you think it will be,” states David Harbour, who plays the character of the inquisitive sheriff Jim Hopper, to TV Guide.

In the first season of the series it is revealed that Hopper was once married and had a little girl named Sara who had cancer. After extensive chemotherapy, the young girl passed away. In the upcoming season, Hooper begins to understand his relationship between him and his daughter, how to be a father, and of being a man.

Not much is revealed about Eleven’s presence in the new season, but it has been inferred that she will be highlighted in the episode entitled ‘The Secret Cabin’, due to the season 1 finale of Sheriff Hopper leaving her eggos by a hidden cabin in the woods.

The order of episodes for the season goes as follows:

  1. Madmax
  2. The Boy Who Came Back To Life
  3. The Pumpkin Patch
  4. The Palace
  5. The Storm
  6. The Pollywog
  7. The Secret Cabin
  8. The Brain
  9. The Lost Brother

Fans have been trying to infer what will happen in the series by the episode names, given that the trailer vaguely answers all of their questions. Harbour states, “ I don’t want to tell you any more than that because it’s good stuff.”
