Many would call her America’s “Cinderella;” Taylor Swift – the celebrity many think that little girls grow up looking up to, singing her songs as they dance around their rooms – but, that may not be the case anymore.
According to her new single, premiered at the 2017 MTW Video Music Awards Aug. 27th, “the old Taylor Swift, is dead.” Ever since the beginning of Swift’s career, she has given the world an image of a celebrity role model, a sweetheart, and usually the victim of any “celebrity drama,” but she is now painting a brand new image of herself.
Taylor recently was sued by radio host David Mueller, for allegedly getting him fired. She responded by counter suing him for assault and battery. Mueller, claiming that he asked to have a picture taken with the blonde pop-singer because his girlfriend was a big fan, allegedly reached his hand from under her skirt and groped her bare rear end as he stood next to her. Nonetheless, the jury found Mueller guilty and Swift won the case.
Swift remained silent during and after the case up until now with the release of her new single. Her new hit single, “Look What You Made Me Do,” was Swift’s way of telling the whole world that the old Taylor Swift is now gone and a new Taylor is coming; one that is stronger and harder.
Reactions to the single are a mix of both great and atrocious; her fans, however, seem to absolutely love the song, immediately having the hashtag “#LookWhatYouMadeDo” trending on Twitter that Sunday night.

Although her fans seem to be absolutely in love with the song, many others seem to think that, yes, she is making a new image for himself, however, it’s not exactly a good one.
Instead, to many it appears as though she’s just asking for even more attention, painting herself as something that she’s not, and even accusations about her taking a jab at Kim Kardashian’s Paris robbery in a scene that took place in the video.

Carrie Battan, writer for The New Yorker, wrote “Taylor Swift’s Radical Transformation in her new song, “Look What You Made Me Do” , would like us to believe that we are experiencing an entirely new Swift, and yet, she is still the the same.
“Swift has been manipulating tabloid story lines…as much as she is clearly enjoying stepping into the role of the bad girl, this turn is still premised on victimhood,” said Battan.
Critics are not only claiming that this single is no different from any of the others, but that she is actually ruining her reputation by giving a subtle hint of Kim Kardashian’s Paris robbery, making Swift appear like the villain.
Swift’s scene in the “Look What You Made Me Do” video, features Swift in a the tub drowning in the many jewels surrounding her, is allegedly her way of mocking Kim’s robbery that took place in her bathroom, and resulted in her being tied up in the bathtub while they stole her jewelry. However, people may be reading into that conspiracy a little too much.
Regardless whether people hate this new Taylor or not, the new Taylor Swift is not supposed to care about any of it.
