Residents of Miami aren’t strangers to having in the sun complete with barbecues and backyard fireworks on Independence Day. While some households prefer to celebrate July 4 at home, there’s still lots to do and events to attend throughout South Florida that will guarantee an unforgettable day.
Key Biscayne Fourth of July Parade
The parade in Key Biscayne is all-day event that is much more than just a parade—a parade complete with homemade floats, stilt walkers and marching bands. The other activities of the day are a picnic with live music in the Village Green, and a fireworks display which begins at 9:00pm. The parade is free to watch for all guests and an 80-minute sightseeing boat tour of the Key Biscayne Bay is offered for a fee.
America’s Birthday Bash
Bayfront Park offers one of the best fireworks shows in South Florida. Apart from being one of the most iconic spots to watch fireworks, the area offers a Kids Zone, live music, lawn games and more the whole day. Just like the Key Biscayne Fourth of July Parade, the daylong event is free to attend.
Miami Beach Fire on the Fourth Festival
An all-day festival beginning at 9:00am, the Fire on the Fourth festival is located at Miami Beach’s North Shore Bandshell Park. The festival includes free yoga, food trucks, DJs and a kid zone which features a rock climbing wall and face painting stations. The fireworks spectacular begins at 9:00pm and using the free shuttles from Sheridan Avenue to the event are recommended to avoid the traffic and the hassle of parking in a crowded area.
July 4th Fireworks Celebration
For those looking for a classier, sophisticated Independence Day celebration, the Biltmore Hotel offers a special concert by the Greater Miami Symphonic Band, concessions for purchase and a fireworks display. The hotel grounds are opened to the public at 5:00pm, the concert begins at 7:00pm and the fireworks begin at 9:00pm. The celebration is free to attend.
Miami offers a wide variety of inexpensive and joyous events to attend on Independence Day, many of them free of charge. Most events include activities for all ages and are a chance to share the day of patriotism and fun with other members of the South Florida community, each of them with their own backgrounds and reasons to celebrate the national holiday.

There are current situations happening all over the world and we seem to forget sometimes where we live and the privileges we have because of this country. For many of us being an American is special either because of the opportunities our families have gotten here or because of the rights we have that many people wish they could.
