From this, only 39% of these 392 schools in MDCPS were declared “A” schools. Miami Lakes Educational Center was one of these schools.

Under the strong leadership of our Top Jaguar, Ms. Lourdez Diaz, as well as the tens of staff and hundreds of students who all dedicated their blood, sweat and tears into becoming the best educators and students they can be, MLEC was able to attain academic prestige.
“MLEC is a great school because of our students’ brilliance, the dedication of the staff and my fellow teachers.” said English Department Chair, Ms. Neyda Borges. “We continue to prove that public education is flourishing in Miami-Dade public schools and that our kids are ready to take on the world.”
This enormous feat is not only one made by MLEC’s jaguars, but by all of MDCPS.
“Miami-Dade has seen the number of failing schools plummet in recent years, from 16 F-rated schools in 2015 to seven last year. That’s compared to 26 schools with an F grade in 1999.” according to the Miami Herald.
Many schools have seen an academic jump unlike ever before, such as Carol City Middle School spiking from an F to a C this year.
MLEC, on the other hand, rose from being a B school last year, to attaining the highest honor of becoming an A school this year, it’s 9th time since the school was created.
“This definitely was a team effort,” said Principal Diaz who was “so pleased” to announce this grand victory, thanking the students, staff and parents who made it all possible.
