After a long hiatus, the C-Cafe at Miami Lakes Educational Center (MLEC) opened its doors yesterday for the first time this school year. In previous years, C-Cafe has opened by the third week of schoo. This year, however, students and faculty had to wait until now to feast on the culinary students’ cuisine.
“[Without C-Cafe] I felt sad, empty, hungry,” said Alain Cartaya, a sophomore in TVO while waiting for the doors to the cafeteria to open.
During first lunch, the C building lobby flooded with C-Cafe veterans and newcomers alike. Once the doors opened, the crowd began to pour into the lunchroom. Groups sent their smallest and quickest friends to the front of the line in hopes of being the first to enjoy the mouthwatering food.

“I felt like I was being trampled. I was suffocated,” said Lupe Cabrera, sophomore in the Finance strand when asked what’s like to be part of the C-Cafe stampede.
Inside, the crowd split into the available lines, waiting while craving what the skilled students of the Culinary Arts strand had whipped up for the day. They waited for what seemed like an eternity before getting their hands on their favorite C-cafe meals.
But, after getting to the front of the line, many were disappointed that their favorite food was missing.

“It was the fries, but apparently they’re gone. That’s the only reason people come here,” said Nursing sophomore Kendra Wright.
The opening of C-Cafe is not only a relief to the students who eat there, but also to the students who get their lunch at F-Cafe. The lines should reduce drastically in length and students can get their lunch quicker without worrying about their time being cut short by the ticking clock.
Many students, however, appreciated the shorter lines and quieter atmosphere.
“It’s not as loud as F-Cafe and the food is better,” said Julianne Anon, a sophomore in Commercial Arts.
To many students, C-Cafe offers the perfect conditions for an enjoyable lunch and they couldn’t be more glad to see it reopen.
