Miami-Dade Police responded to a threat at Mater Lakes Academy Charter School on Wednesday afternoon. Heavily armed police officers entered classrooms at the school with their guns drawn, something students took pictures of and posted on social media.

According to Local 10 News, students said that another student, who was suspended for threatening the school, called in an additional threat on Wednesday to open fire at the school.

Students were in their last period, at around 2 p.m., when school officials told them to stay in their classrooms. They were instructed to sit on the floor and under their desks as officers searched the school for any signs of the threat.

The school, located on Northwest 87 Avenue, was evacuated at around 4:45 p.m. With no indication of danger, the search ended and students were sent home. Although police haven’t released details about the threat, a similar incident happened on Monday. It is not clear if the two are related.
