In the first 256 days of 2015, there have been 296 shootings. The latest, a massacre in Oregon College, resulted in the death of 11 people and brought the gun control controversy back into headlines.
On October 6th, The Harbinger hosted a Twitter Chat to address the issue.
“Twitter has become the most important social media platform…[because] it allows for easy conversation and debate,” said Gabriella Indart, senior in the Cambridge journalism strand.
Students discussed, and sometimes argued, about gun regulations and what, if any, restrictions are necessary. Students discussed issues ranging from frequent background checks to properly diagnosing and treating mental issues.

The debate didn’t only center on problems, but also solutions.
Just like achieving a driver's license, shouldn't gun owners be educated in what they're buying? #GunTalk

Not everyone agreed that gun control and more regulation would solve the problem.

“If only adults could discuss issues like our kids, maybe we could actually pass some laws,” said journalism adviser, Neyda Borges.
