2023 is a year where many new songs of different artists and genres have come out. With new genres such as Regional Mexican Music and K-pop becoming more popular, the battle for top songs this year was competitive. To see which music has been the most successful this year, we can look at the “Billboard 100 Best Songs” list and the top streaming songs on platforms such as Spotify.
First, there is “ Last Night” by Morgan Wallen. This song has stayed the longest at the top of the list at 16 weeks according to an article by 9news. It is also the first song to reach one billion streams in one year on Spotify.
Another big hit is a song called “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus. This song has the most streams in Spotify, with 1.6 billion globally, and stayed eight non-consecutive weeks being on top of the Billboard 100.
The last song in the top 3 is “Kill Bill” by SZA. According to the Billboard list, with 1.5 billion streams on Spotify, it is considered the number one hit.
Although there are songs that do not have the most streams like the ones mentioned, one song that changed the course of what type of music people listen to in 2023 is “Ella Baila Sola” by Eslabón Armado featuring Peso Pluma.
This song currently has one billion streams on Spotify, allowing Regional Mexican music’s popularity to grow. This has also given other Regional Mexican artists such as Ivan Cornejo, Dannyluxx, Fuerza Regida, and others more recognition in the music scene.
“I think the song was extremely catchy when I heard it for the first time because of the lyrics and melody that they used. You can see how both of the artist’s styles are extremely different but that’s what makes the song stand out more. Overall, it really connects to the roots of Regional Mexican music and I can definitely see why it is so popular,” said sophomore Leornardo Roldan.
With these top songs and the many others that have been released this year, people can be interested in what is to come in the new year. Only time can tell what musical releases will hit our ears this 2024.
