On February 2nd, the Washington Football Team revealed their new name and uniforms. Back in 2020, the Washington Football team was forced to rebrand due to social issues revolving around the name.
For the entire 2020 and 2021 season the NFL franchise in Washington was known as the Washington Football Team. There were many candidates for the name and eventually the decided name of the team was leaked weeks prior to the reveal date.
The Washington Football Team has been renamed to the Washington Commanders. They have showcased new uniforms and helmets, featuring two new helmets. The uniforms have received mixed reactions while the name has been ridiculed.
Many different Instagram users have called the name ridiculous and feel that there was not enough effort put into renaming the team. Washington’s star player Chase Young stated,”What is that, it sounds like a movie”? Social media has been used as the main outlet for fans to share their thoughts on the new name and they have not let up.
As for the jerseys and helmets, they have received some praise for the addition of a second helmet and a black alternate jersey. This is just the beginning for the newly rebranded commanders and there is much anticipation leading into next season.
