The Beginning of the End

By Kelly Sanchez

Juniors and seniors at Miami Lakes Educational Center (MLEC) are both at a pivotal point in their academic careers. It’s already halfway through the school year. Seniors are halfway to the end and juniors now face the beginning of the end.

Students are feeling lots of mixed emotions about this. Some have anticipated graduating for a while now, while others are anxious for what is to come.

When it comes to what to expect for the upcoming school year, several things should be considered: graduation, class rank, honors graduates, becoming a senior and leaving off to college.

This year came off to a rough start for many — especially seniors. When students envisioned their high school experience, they didn’t exactly see themselves doing school online or having to endure such a trying school year. For others, life has changed for the better.

“I have more time to do my own things. I get to have a bit more time to understand what I’m learning, too, because teachers are more patient,” said Johanna Figueroa, a senior in the Cambridge Academy. “I feel like after school I have way more time than before,” she continued.

Students are already halfway through the 2020-2021 school year. It’s time to start looking ahead and figuring out what to expect, whether you’re a rising senior or you’re graduating this year and looking forward to college.

Junior rings, the signature class paw, SAT and ACT testing, and becoming seniors are some of the many events to expect for the Class of 2022.

“The truth is that the officers and I during the summer started with a lot of burning ideas and eagerness to work, but afterwards it has been difficult to find ways to keep the class active and with spirit being from home, as a very good majority of students are at home, we are currently thinking and planning ideas to be able to try and develop them before the end of the school year,” said German Nolivos, president of the class of 2022.

“A very important message I would like to let all my junior colleagues know, is that whatever activity or event we have is very important both for me and for the people we are working with to participate. It is a very simple way to maintain school spirit in such a difficult time, and to stay united as a class,” Nolivos continued.

One of the most important milestones, if not the most important milestone, one can reach in high school is graduating, and this year it might look different than ever before.

On top of everything the seniors have had to deal with, they now have to worry about becoming an adult and taking on actual responsibilities head on. Everyone is planning their next steps toward their futures. The clock is ticking, but our Jaguars are finding their own way to make the most out of the school year.
