This year, something historic occured at Miami Lakes Educational Center (MLEC). The school’s senior class had a 100 percent graduation rate. This is something that has never been seen before in the history of MLEC and further exemplifies the school’s academic excellence.
Events like these demonstrate that no matter how difficult the circumstances that we students face in our personal as well as social lives are, anything is possible. Undoubtedly, it sets a historical precedent that not only serves as pride for parents and the students themselves, but also enhances the intellectual capacity and work of all those teachers, counselors, and staff in general who in some way or another had contact with each and every student — and with their graduation just a few days away, this was an extra reason to celebrate.
“The senior class has been looking forward to graduation all year and I’m not surprised by the 100% graduation rate because I know that not even a pandemic can stop these resilient and strong willed students,” said Yasmine Mezawi, the Vice President of the class of 2020.
“With everything that’s been going on, it’s definitely amazing to hear how we’ve persevered and continued to work hard for not only our own futures but also of other generations,” said Natalia Reboredo, the President of the class of 2020. “The Class of 2020 undoubtedly deserves this recognition and I’m lucky to even be a part of this jaguar family,” Reboredo continued.
Principal Yaset Fernandez also shared his congratulations for the class on social media.
“Congratulations to every parent, teacher, counselor, clerical, custodian, security monitor, cafeteria worker and bus driver who in the past 4 yrs contributed to this accomplishment. Congrats are also in order to @Diaz_NRO & @MLECJaguars leadership team. @NROSup,” tweeted Principal Fernandez.
Last year, MLEC was named the “Best Magnet” school in the nation. This year’s accomplishment only shows how much progress its students have made since then, which reinforces that title even more.
Not only that but the school has students going to extremely prestigious schools this year. Among those schools are Stanford University, Cornell University, and Syracuse University.
This is only the beginning. MLEC has been proven to be capable of going above and beyond. It will be interesting to see what the school has in store for the coming years.
