How to Stay Spring Fashion Ready, Even During Quarantine

By Kymani Hughes

Who says you can’t embrace your spring fashion wardrobe during quarantine?

Sure, the coronavirus might have everyone in a panic but the season has only just begun, and a little time indoors shouldn’t stop you from pulling out those florals and bright patterns.

Spring can be a little tricky at times, the weather is warming up but there are still some chilly days thrown in there.

For times like these, layering comes in handy.

You want to look for pieces that add a bit of warmth without being overly bulky. That’s why cropped hoodies are a great option.

Wear it over a sleeveless dress with a nice design, and you have an outfit that’s the perfect balance between comfy and cute.

Besides taking the outdoor outfits to add a little color in your at-home lifestyle, bring the fashion to the business side of things as well.

“When doing video conference calls with my peers, I try to look professional while still being comfortable enough since I’m at home. I’ll usually wear a fitted blazer that’s a bold color for a polished and striking look with simple pants underneath so I can still maintain that comfort-ability”, said Nikki Hughes, a Bayview Loan Servicing employee who is now working from home due to the coronavirus.

You can also take a look at your past winter wardrobe and pair an oversized patterned blazer with a basic tee and denim shorts. This business-on-the-top and party-on-the-bottom look are great for at-home video conferences when you need to look a little more professional.

This season breathes new life into the world around us, so incorporating color into your wardrobe is an absolute must.

Light pastels are a springtime favorite because they have a certain gentleness to it that can balance any look, and it’s perfect for adding color to an outfit without seeming too ‘loud’.

Another idea is taking a neutral-toned outfit and incorporating bold hues such as bright red or cobalt to add a pop of color— this method is guaranteed to brighten up any boring old look.

Prints are another spring staple when it comes to elevating your seasonal wardrobe. There’s a reason florals make a comeback each season, so try using the flowery print with basic silhouettes. You can pair straight-leg jeans with embroidered embellishments to incorporate cute florals while making your outfit come to life in a simple way.

Another great print is stripes, which almost work like a neutral. No matter which direction they’re going— diagonal, horizontal, vertical— stripes are a simple yet striking pattern that when paired with a bold color can create a stunning outfit.

Accessories are the best way to bring together any outfit and can help make a bold statement that will catch everyone’s eyes, even during your video chats.

“Hair accessories are my bigger statement, usually scrunchies and clips. With scrunchies, I’ll do floral to add a small accent, but nothing too grand”, said Kayla Cheung, a freshman at Miami Lakes Educational Center.

The retro headscarf trend is making a comeback and it looks like it’s here to stay. The latest trend is adorning your ponytail with a tropical print headscarf to add a slightly elegant and polished feel to your look.

And let’s not forget the power that jewelry holds, earrings and necklaces are an eye-catching way to incorporate color into your outfit. Opt for a colorful accessory that contrasts with your look to add an extra pop of vibrancy, and you can never go wrong with the classic gold hoop earrings.

“Simple gold or silver necklaces are perfect for a little hint of luxury”, said Cheung.

In trying times like this it’s nice to look at the brighter side of things. Wearing some bright and fun clothing may just bring some joy while we spend time indoors.

And what better way of doing so than incorporating a little color and eye-catching patterns into your wardrobe as you take advantage of the lovely spring season we have left.
