The NFL’s 100th season, which spanned months of exciting matchups that got everyone glued to their seats, is coming to a close today as the AFC and NFC Title Games will be played in just a matter of hours.
Soon, we will know which two teams will be facing each other in this year’s Super Bowl—which, for Americans, represents the most awaited Football game each year.
These games come as the surging Tennessee Titans travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs, while the Green Bay Packers head to San Francisco for a matchup against the league’s best 49ers.
Of course, this is not the first time these teams will face each other. All four of these teams played in the regular season with a Titans victory at home, and a 49ers win at home against the Packers—and this sole fact is what makes it even more difficult to predict today’s winners.
But, we still can take a couple of guesses by dissecting each team. Here are my predictions:
I’ll start with the AFC: Chiefs VS. Titans.
The Titans have extremely impressed the world, beating the New England Patriots in Foxborough and the Baltimore Ravens in Maryland in games that surprised one too many.
But for the Titans, it goes beyond winning—to win, there needs to be at least one star player. In the case of the Titans, there are two.
After being promoted as the starter in week five for the Titans, Ryan Tannehill had a third league highest 70.3 % completion rate, which he obtained while leading the Titans to finish the season with a record of 9-7—and of course, this was with the help of star running back, Derrick Henry.
Henry and Tannehill—who one could honestly call the Titan’s “Fantastic Duo”—have been lighting up defenses in the past week, and today, that streak might just continue against the Chiefs’s weak defense.
But, we have to admit it, beyond Henry and Tannehill, the Titans do have a good chance at losing against the Chiefs.
While the Titans have Henry and Tannehill, the Chiefs have NFL stars like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill—all household names which together comprise the most dangerous offense in the whole league. As if that wasn’t enough, the Chiefs also have one of the league’s best tight ends in Kelce and the best quarterback in football right now.
With this said, the Chiefs have a golden opportunity to win it all.
When it comes to the NFL and the Super Bowl though, surprises might always pop up unexpectedly. And undoubtedly, today’s games are no exception.
Can the Titans defense hold up enough to stop Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs? Can the Chiefs’ defense find a way to stop Derrick Henry? These are the two main questions that I personally have in my mind today.
In my opinion, I don’t think both defenses will be able to limit the other’s offense. But, I do believe that the Chiefs’ offense put up enough points to win.
So for the Titans Vs. Chiefs, I predict that the Chiefs will be representing the AFC in Super Bowl LIV.
With the AFC Champion in, let’s now take a look at the Packers Vs. 49ers rematch in San Francisco—one that every Football fanatic will be watching closely.
The last time these two teams played, the 49ers destroyed the Packers with their defensive line, abrupting the Packers offensive line in a move that had everyone gasping.
But, the Packers have proven over and over again that they can surprise us—after all, they were the first team in history that took the Lombardi home 54 years ago. Under freshman coach Matt LaFleur, who is a first-timer head coach, the Packers have a 13-3 record in the NFC Championship this season.
For the Packers, this season was all about one name: Aaron Rodgers, the all-stars veteran quarterback who is the best in the league. Surprisingly though, this season went beyond Aaron Rodgers for the Packers.
Instead of Rodgers’s sole magic, the Packers have been driven by the new running back force, Aaron Jones, who tallied 16 touchdowns and over 1000 yards this season.
Undeniably though, Rodgers still has it in him: he’s still the star of the show.
Just last week at home vs. Seattle, Aaron Rodgers showed why he’s the NFLs most lethal and talented quarterback in the NFL—and in history. He scorched the Hawks D with a spectacular performance by receiver Devante Adams (2tds, 160 rec yards).
When it comes to the Packers, my main question is, can they do this again today against the great San Fran team?
The San Francisco 49ers have given everybody in the world absolutely no reason to believe they won’t be the Super Bowl’s champions with a 13-3 record (which is the second best in the league). They too have arguably the best defense in the NFL. During this season alone, they beat two of the NFL’s top tier teams—the Saints and Seahawks.
I believe that the key to this specific game will be on Rodgers’s and LaFleur’s hands. Can Rodgers and LaFleur exploit the San Francisco’s defense and outscore them? Or will the San Francisco’s defense do the same thing they did to Green Bay Packers in Week 12?
I think the moves between Rodgers and Jimmy Garrapolo will be a huge factor, but I just don’t see Green Bay losing what might be one of Rodgers’s few chances left at the Lombardi Trophy. As a historic player, Rodgers will simply not allow it.
So in this game, I’m betting my money on the Green Bay Packers.
Yes— I believe we’ll see the Chiefs and Packers facing each other for the big Lombardi on February the second in Miami.
With less than a month for the big game, we just have to sit in and see who will truly take the Lombardi chance today.
For now, all we have to do is wait for today’s long-awaited results.
