Black Friday Vs. Cyber Monday

Black Friday Vs. Cyber Monday

By Kelly Sanchez

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two of the biggest sale events of the year. With their very different approaches to how consumers can get the best deals, people have differing views on which event is the superior one.

Black Friday is notorious for how chaotic it often is, which is the main reason why many consumers would much rather opt for mess-free online shopping.

“Black Friday is crowded and horrible. There are stories of stampedes and people getting crushed,” Gabriella Fuster, a sophomore at Miami Lakes Educational Center (MLEC) said.

However, many argue that participating in the shopping holiday poses a serious threat to shoppers. Since 2006, 12 deaths and 117 injuries have occurred as a result of Black Friday. Such things are inevitable for such a large event open to the public— it’s destined to bring up dangers.

“My mom kept getting scared that I would get lost so she stopped taking me. I like Cyber Monday more. Everything is cheaper on Cyber Monday,” Fuster continued.

Many people believe that Black Friday is bogus. In addition to that, they find that it is time-consuming and overall too much of a hassle to deal with.

“On Black Friday, you may not find everything since it might be gone. You’re going to have to wait in long lines and might not end up getting what you expected. On Cyber Monday, you can do that in a quicker amount of time,” said Reann Nicholas, a sophomore at MLEC.

Cyber Monday seems to be the easier choice, much smoother process. Another problem that seems to arise for Black Friday shoppers is that it’s really difficult for them to get the items. Besides having to wait in long lines, they have to compete with other shoppers to get items, whereas Cyber Monday shoppers can make a purchase at the push of a button.

Despite this, there is still a very large and loyal group of people who see Black Friday as one of the most anticipated events of the holiday season— one that many can’t live without.

“It gives you the ability to be able to see and find new garments and new objects that I would usually not get due to their low price. Cyber Monday sometimes takes too long and the internet crashes. You can’t try it on, so you don’t know the feel of it,” said Victoria Zangaro, a sophomore at MLEC.

However, what many Black Friday shoppers enjoy about Black Friday in the first place is getting to experience the thrill of getting a discounted item before someone else snatched it up and having to run around from one store to the next.

Whether it’s being part of the huge mobs the weekend of Thanksgiving or getting 70% off on your favorite websites, the choice is up to you.
