Miami: A Spring Break Hot Spot by Maria Sanchez

Miami is one of the top spring break destinations, especially for high school and college students pursuing an escape from stressful exams and studying. It’s the perfect place to let loose and just relax. There are tons of exciting things to do in Miami. Here are just a few:

Hit the beach! Miami is best known for beautiful white sand lining the seashore and crystal blue waters. There are dozens of beaches to choose from: Bill Baggs Cape State Park, Hallandale, Hollywood, South Beach, and more. Just choose one that fits your preference.

Lincoln Road is full of stores, boutiques, art galleries, and museums. Seven blocks of this mall’s ten blocks have been closed to traffic. The distinctive atmosphere allows for some pretty interesting people to show up, so you never know who you might see.

Aventura Mall is known for its 300 specialty stores, including Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and Macy’s – as well Louis Vuitton, Emilio Pucci, Apple, Calvin Klein and Forever 21. This mall also has restaurants and a contemporary art collection.

“Aventura Mall is a great place to go because it has a lot more shopping options than other malls,” says Dannette Aviles, MLEC junior. “There’s more variety in the types of stores made available to shoppers.”

Bayside is located right on the water and is only a few steps away from Downtown Miami. It is known for its various stores and boutiques as well as its countless entertainment and restaurant options. There are also many fun places to go near Bayside such as the Perez Art Museum Miami, Mary Brickell Village, Miami Children’s Museum, and Miami Seaquarium.

South Beach is probably the best known Miami hot spot. No stay in Miami is complete without a stop in South Beach. There are attractions for everyone, from shopping to partying. Depending on personal taste, you can do everything from spending a weekend touring Miami Beach to exploring the Art Deco architecture of the area to spending the night hitting clubs and beaches.

Some family friendly places are Miami Metro Zoo and Parrot Jungle Island. Children are fascinated by wildlife because it’s not something they see every day. Visiting Miami Metro Zoo would be a great way to have kids see animals that aren’t native to Florida such as bears, lions, and tigers, and going to Parrot Jungle would allow them to walk on jungle trails and petting farms.

Regardless of what you enjoy, there are a lot of fun things to do in Miami during spring break. There are attractions for people of all ages and people with different interests.
