The Miami Miracle

The Miami Miracle

By Tyler Banks

The Miami Dolphins finally have something to cheer about. After weeks of putting their fans through a will-they, won’t-they situation, the Dolphins actually look like they can make the playoffs.

After the amazing ending to the Dolphins vs. Patriots game, many people think that the Dolphins are set to finish first place in their division. They’re currently sitting at second place, behind the New England Patriots that they have just defeated. So this win could be the confidence booster the Dolphins need to win their division.

Leading up to the game, many football watchers were expecting a repeat of their last encounter on the field, a blowout. The last time the Dolphins and Patriots played, the Dolphins lost in an embarrassing 38 to 7, a game in which many fans lost hope for the Dolphins season.

However, in this unexpected turn of events, the Dolphins managed to essentially steal the win from the Patriots. With seven seconds left on the clock, and in the last possession of the game, the Patriots led the Dolphins 33 to 28. As Tannehill snapped the ball, fans around the stadium leaned forward in their chairs. Tannehill connected with Kenny Stills across the field. He gained some yards but as the Patriots defense closed in on him, he threw a lateral pass to DeVante Parker to move the chains even further.

The Patriots were closing in on Parker too, so he then threw a lateral to Kenyan Drake, who took that ball from the 50 yard line, all the way to the endzone, ending the game 34-33 for the Dolphins. A heartbreaking end for the Patriots and an uplifting beginning for the Dolphins.

This win could be the catalyst to one of the biggest turnarounds in a season in NFL history. There is a lot of football left to be played, but the Dolphins are looking like a real threat to the rest of their conference.
