A serial killer has killed three people within a one-mile radius in Tampa, Florida. Police
have been investigating to find out more information on the killer, but so far have gotten nothing.
Within eleven days, three people were killed near bus stops in the Seminole Heights neighborhood. The community is terrified because they don’t know how to protect themselves from someone they haven’t heard anything about.
The police officers and the community know very little about the killer and are doing
everything they can to prevent another kill. They don’t know the killers’ motive or if there is any at all. There are some common threads, like all the killings being near the Route 9 bus.
According to the Tampa Police Department, two of the bodies that were found had gun wounds, the other is unknown. The authorities and the community have taken serious measures and have cancelled Trick- or-Treating in the neighborhood. They won’t go out of their homes or even open the door. The community is very frightened and are very cautious of their surroundings.
Authorities have also figured out another common thread: they were all walking alone at
night. Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan said, “This pains me to tell you that if you’re out there walking alone, that you’re either a suspect or a potential victim.” The neighbors are scared to go outside alone or at all.
A mother, Maria Maldonado, doesn’t let her 7-year- old son play in the front yard. She
said, “I’m afraid. We don’t open the door or nothing. A lot of people are scared. I’m scared for my son, for the neighborhood.”
The community is looking out for each other because they don’t want to suffer the losses
of more neighbors. It’s important to be aware of your surroundings and always be aware of what can happen. Several people like being alone, but maybe next time you’re thinking of taking the bus, bring someone with.
