Legend has it that every year on Valentine’s Day, Cupid plays a role in the celebration of love, but in reality it all depends on you. Rather than rushing out last-minute and buying the cliché box of chocolates like the rest of the world or spending money on an expensive dinner with the same red roses, here are a few unusual ideas that will definitely get you some love not just on Valentine’s Day, but for the rest of the year.

LoveBook allows you to create your own personal gift book with all the reasons you love that special someone. All you have to do is create an account with lovebookonline.com and get started. You create it; they print it, bind it, and ship it.

“Building the book was really easy and fun, but the best part was my boyfriend’s face when he read the book. He really liked the book and was kind of upset that he didn’t find this website first! I will definitely be making another one in the future!” said Kristen Cuba, a college senior attending FIU.

Laminate pictures and place them in Mason jars filled with water or vegetable oil for a vintage look. Insert your picture into the Mason jar and pour enough water or vegetable oil to cover completely. Tighten the lid up and it’s done! The vegetable oil will hold the picture inside the jar without penetrating it, causing it to look aged and a bit transparent.

“My best friend gave me our picture in a jar and I loved it so much! It’s so unique and a gift that lasts forever. I’m definitely thinking about giving some out to my friends this Valentine’s Day,” said Melissa Sierra, a junior at Hialeah Gardens High School.

Create a Love Light bulb that can be beautifully displayed all year long. You’ll need a thin red gauge wire, a light bulb, a scrap piece of wood, pliers, and a hot glue gun. First, you would need to prepare a large surface to hollow out the bulb.  When your bulb is ready put it aside, then cut a ten-inch piece of wire to make a heart “filament.” Take your filaments to your bulb and insert them inside. Measure the wires just enough so that the heart is in the center of the bulb.  Then, secure the wires to the wooden box with hot glue. Now fit your glass bulb over the filaments and glue the bulb down to the wood at the base. Pin your love letter to the front and you’re done!

Guys, if your girl likes fruits and is into eating well, buy her a large watermelon and carve out “I love you” on it. She’ll wake up to a special surprise and a healthy snack.

Imagine waking up to a ceiling filled with balloons! You can fill her room with helium balloons and attach love letters to the ends of each of the strings. When she wakes up she’ll be surrounded by hanging letters declaring your love.
