With the start of the new school year, many students have arrived at MLEC prepared and excited to see what’s in store for their future. So now the question is, what is in store for the new and old students?

The freshman class of 2021 have arrived, with a lot to get accustomed to in high school. Though some upperclassmen may have forgotten, the transition from middle to high school isn’t exactly a smooth one. However, there are several good aspects of high school that many of the new students are pleasantly surprised by.

Ashley Pineda, a freshman enrolled in the Finance strand talked about how life has been to her so far at Tech. “Many things are different in high school,” she says. “In middle school, classes were much more clumped together but here you can just talk to whomever. It’s great!”

Returning students have found that lots of things have changed since last year. New teachers and administration have been hired as well as a change in the lunch schedule has had many people talking.
Despite changes, students have well adapted and, according to Mrs. Lourdes Diaz, MLEC’s Principal “The first week went by with no problems… things have run very smoothly so far.”
However, if you’re still worried about the long lines, Diaz added, “You just have to be patient. Once the new changes are made, lines will get shorter… and things will settle into place.”
The new changes, she mentioned, include 8 new picnic tables, C-Café’s opening, and two brand new lunch carts similar to those currently used to serve breakfast.
In the meantime, there are many fun events that are already scheduled for the very near future. These include the Back to School dance, Harvest Fest, and the Homecoming dance – and that’s not all – more events are still being planned, such as the Homecoming Basketball Jam.

If you plan on joining a club this year then you can’t miss out on Club Rush (September 5th – 7th). Many of the school’s interest clubs will be setting up stands in the gymnasium and representatives of each of them will be right there and ready to answer any and all of your questions. These clubs include Key Club, SHAPE, JSA, ERA, 5000 Role Models, as well as many different cultural clubs.
So with the rest of the school year to go, make sure to take advantage of all of the opportunities available to you – but, don’t forget to have fun in the process.
