Something is different about our school lunch tables. They’re bright, they’re colorful, and they’ve been painted with industrial car paint. Walking towards C-Cafeteria, you’ll see some awesomely painted lunch tables waiting for you to enjoy your afternoon meal.
These colorful additions to the school were once rusty, faded blue tables, but four Trade and Industry students were able to turn these dull drags into inspirational creations. Featuring the American Flag, a pizza, stars, and many more creative paint jobs, Willie Scott, 12th, Trevon Baker, 12th, Adrian Cedeno, 11th, and Leo Herrera, 12th, have certainly made a beautiful project out of all this.
“I don’t quite remember how the project came upon us, but I believe the academy leader of Trade and Industry Jose Villadiego brought up the topic of the lunch tables getting old and was trying to figure out ways to clean them up. Eventually he came up with the project of repainting the old tables with some leftover car paint. It was a good idea. It’s time to take ownership of our school and beautify it. Just like the murals and other designs painted around the school this idea will help brighten up the school,” said our principal, Mr. Parker.
A tremendous effort was put in by these students in order to ensure that these tables would come out just right. From pressure washing the tables to making sure their designs were perfect to every detail these four students have certainly turned this project into something more stunning.
“At first the designs were difficult. We had to draw out the designs and then confirm them with the principal. Some of the designs we had to redo over again because it wasn’t aligned or didn’t have enough detail,” commented the four students together.
The results were astonishing, showing the artistic side of these Trade and Industry students. They aren’t done yet, folks. Perhaps when the three twelfth graders graduate in May, they’ll come back for three months in order to complete a few more tables. In the future, they hope to paint the Colombian flag and even a Batman-themed table as well.
Next time you come to enjoy your lunch out in the sun, sit down at one of those artistic beauties and catch a glimpse of the hard work these students put into making the school just a little bit more cheerful.
