When is it Too Early To Start Celebrating Christmas? by Daniel Saiz

The song goes “Tis the season to be Jolly,” but is it really? The spirit of Christmas affects everyone, either if you hate it or love it; people can’t help getting cheery about December 25. People say “it’s never too early for Christmas,” but I’m here saying yes, there is definitely a “too early” to start celebrating Christmas.

First of all, to the people who start buying their Christmas decorations/presents right after Halloween, I get it. Companies over commercialize holidays every year, whether it’s Easter, or Fourth of July, they’re always itching to make an extra buck. People might say  “but it’s cheaper if you buy it early on,” but if you look at the facts, some of the only days where prices do drop are Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the few December weeks before Christmas. It’s smarter to shop after Thanksgiving, by this I mean after Black Friday, which you should only shop at your own risk. Don’t forget that Thanksgiving is a holiday too; the fat bearded man can wait until you’re done with your turkey!

Next are Christmas trees, which by personal experience I know get bought way too early. Several of my friends and acquaintances tell me that they’ve already bought theirs when it is only the beginning of November. Cut pine-trees usually last 5 months if they’re well-watered and nurtured. If you take this into consideration, then what is the big fuss to get a tree so early since it’s going to last you for more than enough time? And to me, Christmas trees ruin the spirit of Thanksgiving, making it seem like people only care about presents rather than spend time with family.

A word of advice, if it’s: the day after Halloween; Early November; Mid-November; Thanksgiving; late November, do not, I repeat, do not put up Christmas lights. Unless you want to be the “center of attention,” and I do not mean this in a good way, or have an electricity bill higher than Dexter’s parents in ‘Dexter’s Laboratory,’ then for the love of all things holy, do not do it. It irks the heck out of me to see people put up their “Winter Wonderland” in the middle of November when: a) it’s still hot due to Miami weather, and b) no one else has their decorations up. All I’m saying is that if the store plaza’s haven’t started decorating their parking lot, then neither should you.

The final thing I’d like to get across is that not all people like Christmas things, so don’t make a big deal out of it. Some people, like myself, just don’t have Rudolf’s red nose, because contrary to popular belief they did not let it snow.
