It was the perfect night, that’s for sure. A masquerade right out of the Phantom of the Opera, filled with different faces, of all different shades and sizes, everywhere around you.
Of course, unlike the wondrous musical, most Jaguars who attended this year’s Homecoming dance didn’t keep their masks on until midnight – nor did they participate in choreographed dance; instead, everybody enjoyed partying to Lorde and David Guetta, filling the air with laughter and joyous energy until it was time to go home.
As each Jaguar entered the hospitable Miami Airport Hilton, and lined up to present their invitations, friends gathered in the reception hall to take snap chats, selfies and professional photos provided by MLEC’s yearbook staff. Masks on, masks off, cute smiles, and silly face – those are the memories that’ll mark November 15th Homecoming dance.
That is, until there’s a reminder of the dancing.
After announcing the Homecoming court – for which Sebastian Aquino and Daniela Frissora won the title of Homecoming King and Queen, Adriel Martinez and Yennifer Dominguez won Prince and Princess, Aubrey Carr and Essence P. won Duke and Duchess, and Juanita Cardona won Lady – the real party started.
Ballroom-dancing morphed into full blown dance music, and led by Mr. and Ms. MLEC, Myles and Imani Johnson, everyone who was anyone raced to show their moves on the dance floor. For hours, the DJ played hot hits like the “Royals Remix”, and party favorites, “The Cupid Shuffle,” until most girls could barely handle their heels, and boys, their ties.
By the end of the night there had been salsa marathons, dance-offs, and slow dancing for couples. It’d been a marvelous night, everyone had fun, and it was time to head for home (or the after parties).
