Summer Is Over, Get Ready for School

By Maria Vasquez & Jennifer Perez

No more Netflix binge-watching. No more scrolling through feeds, stories, or timelines for five hours straight. School is less than a month away. It’s time to get your life back in order. Here are some tips to be be prepared for the first day of school:

Supplies

Even though you won’t get any supply lists until the first day of school, you still need to get the basics: loose leaf paper, blue/black/red pens, pencils, an agenda, binders, and a few notebooks. It’s best to buy things now while there is a tax-free sale going on at all stores (until August 16th) for school supplies/uniform.

School Uniform

Hit up Old Navy or JC Penny for affordable polo shirts. Some schools require an embroidered logo so visit Ibiley and buy a few patches. It’s best to iron them on yourself because a polo shirt can cost you about $7 and a patch $5 at most. If you get a shirt with a patch on it, it may cost you $20 or more. Strict schools may find multi-colored shoes and sweaters inappropriate. Make sure your school is chill about you wearing Jordans or zebra-printed chucks before you spend $60 on them.

Fix Your Sleeping Schedule

No one will judge you for hitting “play next episode” until your parents pulled out the driveway.  That’s what summer is all about. But now, the fun is over. It’s time to schedule your shows so that you go to sleep at a decent time. On top of that, set an alarm. After several weeks of not having a set time to wake up, it’s important to get used to waking up to the sound of an alarm to avoid sleeping past it on the first day of school.

The Night Before The First Day Of School

Have your book bag packed with paper and pens/pencils. Prepare your outfit the night before so when you wake up, you can get ready and not have to think about how early it is and what you’re in for for the next four 9-weeks.
Three months of undoing every routine you’ve built throughout the school year is apart of the high school experience. Enjoy the last few days of summer, get ready for school, and hope winter break comes quickly.
