United Airlines Plane Engine Catches Flames Mid-Flight

On March 6th, flight 1118, which belonged to United Airlines, was headed to Fort Myers, Florida taking off from Houston, Texas’ Bush Intercontinental Airport. However the flight ran into issues as during its voyage a passenger had recorded flames emerging from one of the plane’s engines.

The incident resulted in no casualties and none of the 167 passengers had suffered any physical harm. Reports from those who were on board claim the Boeing 737’s left engine had erupted into flames within 15-20 minutes after it reached the air.

One of the pilots had reported at approximately 6:50 AM that there were problems with the engine. The pilots successfully conducted   a safe landing at approximately 7:20 AM. About 30 minutes after the incident the plane had safely landed and it was forcibly returned back to Houston, Texas.

After the landing of the malfunctioned plane, United Airlines flew all the passengers to Fort Myers in another plane. United Airlines had also pitched in to give the travelers a 15$ meal voucher ticket and 200$ worth of flight Credit. Meal voucher tickets can be used to pay for food products in the airport’s stores, with the exception of alcohol. Flight Credit can be used when booking another flight but it is not paid by the actual traveler.

There is no set explanation as to how the engine caught fire other than the pilots and United Airlines claiming that it was just an engine malfunction. However according to aviation experts it is due to excess fuel burning which rarely happens on airlines.
