On February 14, 2024, MLEC welcomed our new assistant principal, Mr. Herrera. Mr. Herrera was notified that he was being transferred from Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School and promoted to Assistant Principal.
Mr. Herrera spent his first couple of days observing the school. When asked if he had any plans for big change, he responded:
“Not yet, right now is just an observation period. Implementation of any plans or initiatives can arise from what I’ve observed later on,” he said.
Mr. Herrea tends to leave an impact on every school has worked at. Upon his arrival, students from Hialeah Miami-Lakes Senior High School, the school in which he served as an administrative advisor prior to his arrival, as well as students from Barbara Goleman Senior High School, expressed their grief for his departure.
“Mr.Herrera was a true asset to the HML community. He was known for going above and beyond for students and worked overtime to improve to make Trojan Country a better place. He will be missed. MLEC got a good one!” said Maurits Acosta, an HML student.
Mr. Herrera is grateful for the time he has spent at both these schools and is glad that he could leave a lasting impression. Mr. Herrera always strives to be the very best version of himself and makes sure he creates a safe environment for all his students.
“I’m a big Patriots fan, for any football fans out there. And I always create a safe space for students so if anyone needs to talk to me, problems happening going on, anything at home, anything in school, I want to make sure that students feel open to come and see me. ” He said.
Although Mr.Herrera will miss Hialeah Miami-Lakes Senior High School, he is beyond excited to start his new journey at MLEC.
“It’s definitely different, a little bit less students but it’s a whole new role. I’m not in a classroom, I don’t have to deal with too much discipline because this school is not known for having those issues,” he said.
In welcoming Mr.Herrera, we begin a new chapter filled with promise and potential. As we embrace this transition, we look forward to the contributions Mr errera will bring to our school. Welcome to MLEC, Mr.Herrera.
