MLEC’s Mu Alpha Theta Celebrates Pi Day

By Bryan Pinero

Since 1988, March 14th has been marked as “Pi Day,” being celebrated annually as a reference to the mathematical constant Pi, which begins with  3.14. Here at MLEC, our very own math club, Mu Alpha Theta, has done several activities to celebrate the occasion.

The first activity Mu Alpha Theta did was a fundraiser that took place the week before Pi Day, from Tuesday March 7th all the way to Friday March 10th in front of building three.

The idea behind this fundraiser was that there would be four jars with silly pictures of our four principals. Students would put money in the jar of the principal they wanted to see get a pie to the face on Pi Day.

For the first two days, the jar with Ms. Cimino’s face was receiving the most money until a turn of events came and Mr. Windisch’s jar suddenly received more money and eventually won the contest.

After the almost-week-long fundraiser, Mu Alpha Theta continued to celebrate the occasion the week after on March 14th.

During lunchtime that Tuesday afternoon, the club and its members were out in the courtyard setting up and hosting different “booths”, such as PiQuest, which is a game in which students would answer questions related to Pi for a chance to win a small pie of their choice.

To close out the event, senior Melanie Fernandez gathered up the crowd of students that were there so that she could do the “Pie an Administrator” event and put not one but two pies to Mr. Windisch’s face.

“I wanted it to be either Ms. Trish-Eugene or Ms. Cimino,” said sophomore Roolanksy Propspere. “Even though I wasn’t there, I think it was good and that it should happen again next year,” he continued.
