The 2023 Latin Grammy Awards ceremony, which has traditionally taken place in the United States, will instead be located in Spain for the first time. The inaugural Latin Grammy Awards were presented in 2000 held in Las Vegas. The 2022 ceremony also took place in Las Vegas.

While the Latin Recording Academy and the Latin Grammys were founded in the United States, their membership and purpose have always been global, representing recordings made in Spanish and Portuguese all over the world.

Although there had previously been rumors of the Academy moving the awards outside of the United States, this is the first time actual plans have been made to present the awards elsewhere.

Manuel Abud, the director of the Latin Recording Academy, and the regional president of Spain’s Andalusia region made the announcement on February 22nd in Seville, Spain.

The two key goals of the Latin Grammy Awards are the recognition of quality and raising public knowledge of the cultural richness of Latin recording artists and creators.

“Latin music is an exemplary manner for Hispanic culture to be diffused throughout our world. Personally, it symbolizes my heritage not only present Hispanic traditions but also that of what my ancestors celebrated. For example, I adore listening to Dembow which is a genre known to represent the Dominican Republic”, said Celia Morales, MLEC Hispanic Heritage club president.

The Latin Grammy Award for Record of the Year is a distinction given each year at the award show, an event that honors achievement, represented by Latin recording artists in the US and around the world.

With 28 awards each, Puerto Rican rapper Residente and Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra of the Dominican Republic are tied for the most awards given to men. Natalia Lafourcade, a Mexican singer, is the most-awarded lady with 14 victories, followed by Shalra, a Colombian, with 12, and Rosala, a native of Barcelona, with 11.
