A Taste of the Holidays

A Taste of the Holidays

By Elizabeth Gonzalez

There are so many ways to welcome all the aspects of the holiday season, one of the most notable being all the flavors offered in a beverage. Starbucks is home to six special returning holiday drinks a year. Dunkin Donuts brings holiday flavors by bringing new and old beverages. Chick-Fil-A and Wendy’s brought the peppermint flavor to their ice-cream-based delights. Coquito and eggnog are home favorites for the holidays and aren’t leaving anytime soon.

As stated by Taste of Home, Starbucks is the most popular coffee chain, along with being the largest with over 30,000 shops around the globe. This year, they are bringing the holiday flavor through their six drinks: Peppermint Mocha, Caramel Brulée Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte, Toasted White Chocolate Mocha, Iced Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte, and Irish Cream Cold Brew, according to Starbucks Stories & News.

Dunkin Donuts spreads its holiday cheer through its new Cookie Butter Cold Brew and the returning Toasted White Chocolate Latte, and Peppermint Mocha Latte, according to Dunkin’s website. Coffee shops having holiday flavors in coffee means people are able to feel festive especially if they aren’t able to feel the season in the weather like here in South Florida.

It’s not just the seasonal drinks making their return at Starbucks but their iconic holiday cups. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the festive cups, as said in Pure Wow

Cold weather doesn’t mean you have to block the cold and creamy delights. It’s not just the coffees that come in holiday flavors but also desserts. Chick-Fil-A never disappoints when it comes to its seasonal treats. The Peppermint Chip Milkshake at Chick-Fil-A is a favorite among customers, some will go on to say it’s one of the best holiday delights to enjoy.

After bringing a much-desired strawberry Frosty during the summer, Wendy’s delivered this season with a Peppermint Frosty. Many say nothing will ever compare to Wendy’s iconic chocolate Frosty but it’s a step in the right direction bringing customers a mix of creamy vanilla and peppermint to toast to the season.

Staying connected to your culture during the holidays shines through the food and drinks here in Miami. Coquito is a traditional Puerto Rican beverage that translates to “Little Coconut.” The drink is coconut based and contains rum.

A popular drink in Haitian homes is cremas (kremas) made from a base of evaporated milk, cream of coconut, and spices. To round out festive drinks from the Caribbean, one can find pots of dried hibiscus brewing on stoves in Jamaican homes to make a drink called sorrel. Lastly, the traditional eggnog that has been a staple holiday drink since medieval Britain can be found in grocery stores

Whether your holiday beverage of choice is warm or cold there’s something for everyone. The blast of holiday-flavored drinks is one of the highlights of the season.
