Black History Club’s “The Miami Slide” Event

The Miami Slide was an event held in Miami Lakes Educational Center on December 9th, 2022. This event was a dance hosted by the Black History Club during the school lunch period.

It was a free entry event in which music was played and students were allowed to briefly congregate with each other.

“ I went with my friends and we had fun, we do think it was too short since it was only during our lunch time and I think more people would have come if it was talked about more,” said sophomore Jarrett Royal.

Due to the small time frame several students complained that the event was not very fun, since they only had 45 minutes to enjoy.

“I went for five minutes and left right after, it was boring to me. The lights were on, the energy wasn’t there, and it was short so I left because I knew it wouldn’t be fun,” said junior Matthew Simeon.

Despite multiple students complaining about some aspects of the event, others had fun at it.

“I had a lot of fun, I don’t really eat school lunch so when I heard about the Miami Slide I already knew I was going to take my friends and go,” says freshmen Mariela Pierre.

“I had fun dancing with them, it was the most fun I had during lunch in a while,” she continued.
