MLEC has been roaring with bonus Jaguars and exciting activities to show the class of 2027 everything the school has to offer as the Magnet application deadline approaches. MLEC’s Magnet Lead Coordinator David Galarce has visited middle schools throughout the school year, sharing information regarding the school’s programs, but was finally able to show students live and direct.
“Being able to welcome students from middle schools is a great opportunity. It’s different when you go to the school and inform them of all the events, being able to see the reality is a game-changer,” Galarce said.
Over the past few weeks, various middle schools had the opportunity to visit our campus and get a glimpse of the programs available to them. Entering high school, especially a Career Technical Education (CTE) school, can be a big step for someone just entering their teen years, so these visits serve an important purpose for prospective freshmen.
“Students being able to see what different high schools have to offer is really meaningful. Each school offers different things so it’s important that every student understands what they can gain at each school. MLEC offers so much while being a hidden gem, so bringing kids to see our campus highlights everything that makes the school unique. Through the tours with high school students, the eighth graders see the variety we offer. They get to experience the Information Technology Academy, Health, Communications, and more,” Galarce added.
Students toured the engineering lab and engaged with the robotics equipment, visited the health academy, and were part of pharmacy and EMR labs. Lastly, some groups were able to see our Law studies courtroom in action as well as E-sports.
“Being able to have a hands-on and educational trip to the school was really great. The courtroom was a really cool experience and showed me that you can get the most out of your electives. I’m interested in the journalism strand in Cambridge right now,” said a student from John F. Kennedy Middle School.
While the day was centered around seeing parts of each academy, the eighth graders were also able to experience some of the unique qualities only found at MLEC. Culinary students showed off their cooking prowess by grilling burgers in our C-Cafe while relaxing during our monthly school picnic, Jaguars in the Garden. The eighth graders were able to take part in all the games and music during the event.
