On September 7, 2022, the highly anticipated Apple event took place in the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California. During the event, Apple announced many new upcoming changes to smart devices like Apple Watches and Airpods Pro, as well as an additional enhancement to Apple Fitness +.
What attracted the most attention was the release date of the heavily awaited iPhone 14 and iOS 16 updates.
Since the update’s first announcement at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, iOS 16 developers have been tweaking and editing the software update to make it one of Apple’s best. With it being released to the public on September 12, 2022, this latest iPhone software comes with customizable iPhone lock screens, overhauled notifications, an undo and edit button for Messages, a new Home app, and much more.
With iOS 16, Apple integrates a much more customizable and personal feel to the original lock and home screens, bringing new features like the ability to change the font and color of the time and date. Users can now create different lock screens and save them for future use with the ability to switch between them whenever they please.
In addition to these customizations, the update allows users to add extra information to their lock screen through the form of widgets. Widgets were first introduced to Apple products during the iOS 14 update in 2020 and now with iOS 16, widgets can be added onto lock screens, allowing users to quickly view specific data like weather, events, reminders, date, time zones, alarms, and battery level.
Many applications like Instagram and Snapchat have allowed users to unsend and edit messages. Since then, many Apple users have been asking for the same option in iMessage, and now the long-awaited feature is finally available.
Users only have two minutes to unsend an iMessage and fifteen minutes to edit it by tapping and holding down on the message in question. Features like this bring a great amount of relief to clumsy texters. This feature, however, doesn’t work with SMS text messages; it only works if the receiver also has iOS 16 installed.
This new Apple software update has brought many features to boost the iOS user experience. With all these changes, Apple has set higher expectations for the future of iOS.
