Las Vegas Concert Residencies

Las Vegas Concert Residencies

By Kevin Perez

Concert residencies have been the staple of the Las Vegas Strip for decades. Taking place in different resort hotels, different artists each year bring their talents to Sin City.

Concert residencies are when artists perform a series of shows at one venue. Residencies have been the staple of the Las Vegas Strip for decades, but residencies still exist in other major cities like New York City where Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen have performed and London which hosted Elvis Presley.

Singer and pianist Liberace was the first to come up with concert residencies as he performed in Las Vegas starting in 1944 (The Guardian). Since then, historic musicians like Celine Dion, Elton John, and Drake among other artists have had their own residencies in Las Vegas.

The most successful resident performer is Celine Dion’s A New Day… which garnered over $385M and an audience of about 3 million people throughout her 717 shows (Billboard). The show ran for five years after being originally contracted for three at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

As Las Vegas returns from the COVID-19 pandemic, more musicians are picking up their own residencies on the Las Vegas Strip. Among the most recent artists that are performing and set to perform at Las Vegas theaters are Adele, Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars and Andersonn .Paak) and BTS.

Adele announced her residency Weekends With Adele at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in support of her latest album, 30. Prior to her first show, Adele announced the show’s postponement due to a COVID-19 breakout and multiple reports now have it slated to begin this summer.

R&B super duo Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, also known as Silk Sonic, are bringing their groove to Park MGM’s Dolby Live in Las Vegas with An Evening With Silk Sonic, coincidentally the name of their first album. After scheduling 13 shows the group announced an extended residency through May as they get ready to bring “The Hottest Show in Sin City.”

Korean pop group BTS announced earlier this week their brief Las Vegas residency at Allegiant Stadium with four shows slated in April. BTS took off internationally after their album The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever and now have hit songs such as “Dynamite” which has won several awards including the Billboard award for Top Selling Song in 2021.

Tickets for each residency are available on ticket platforms such as Ticketmaster and StubHub. Disclaimer: Prior to purchasing tickets, check the COVID-19 guidelines as they differ by each residency.
