After a long year, the highly anticipated friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has returned, swiping the cinemas across the world with action packed scenes and the beloved Peter Parker, MJ, and Ned trio. played by Tom Holland
Spider-Man: No Way Home premiered December 17th and has since then been filling up the theaters with fans from all around. This movie brought in the young and old, the comic fanatics and regular families.
Even with COVID-19 being a limiting factor, the film was still able to excel. In total, the box office reported $600.8 million just this past weekend and the film stands after Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity war to take the third highest opening-weekend.
Although there were high expectations and speculations, this film managed to deliver everything that the fans wanted and more.
The movie picks up right after Spider-Man: Far From Home where Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland) has just had his true identity released publicly.
Since Spider-Man’s identity is an important part of the character, he is forced to navigate life while under the public eye. The storyline focuses on Peter’s struggles with his identity and the consequences of living two separate lives.
Marvel and Sony were able to incorporate characters from two different franchises that hadn’t made an appearance in over 10 years in one universe, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The seemingly impossible task was executed flawlessly by these studies to create an amazing film filled with action-packed sequences and heart-wrenching moments. There was even room for the typical comedic relief, making for a well-balanced film. From start to finish, the audience was well-entertained by the plot and characters.
There had been countless rumors about cameos from previous Spider-Man movies, which became a reality when both Toby Maguire, the original Spider-Man, and Andrew Garfield, who played the character in The Amazing Spider-Man, made an appearance. The three Spidermans were able to work together in the latter half of the film, allowing for various emotional scenes between them.
Some of the most loved villains also had their fair share of screen time. Alfred Molina (Doc Ock) and Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin) returned to play their iconic characters, both delivering an amazing performance.
Other villains included Electro, Sandman, and The Lizard. All of these characters allowed Spider-Man to grow into a strong character, maturing from a teenager to a true superhero.
The film heavily focuses on the theme of second chances, which is reflected in all the characters, who, in one way or another, receive a second chance by the end of the movie. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man were able to face their unresolved conflicts in the film and there were references made to past movies.
At the end of the film, Peter Parker finds himself living alone with nothing but his personal belongings, a new suit, and intercepting radio calls of the police. This scene shows a spider man that is more comic book accurate than what the previous two movies had presented and opens the door to endless possibilities.
The culmination of this trilogy was a complete rollercoaster of emotions, from the epic fight scenes to the light-hearted moments. Spiderman: No Way Home broke many records, stealing the hearts of fans along the way by bringing back nostalgic characters to the big screens one last time.
