Re-Recorded Music: Musicians’ New Restart Button

Re-Recorded Music: Musicians’ New Restart Button

By Zahir Stevens

Re-recorded music has been surfacing, giving older artists more exposure. Taylor Swift is an excellent example of this. She’s recently been breaking the internet after releasing re-recorded albums. She has evolved into her new form since parting ways with her original label. Swift has decided to re-record music in her new style, and she is finally free of her former manager’s control. MLEC students weighed in on this hot topic.

“I actually love it,” Roselyn Villanueva said. Swift has already released five re-recorded albums, and the most anticipated re-released album, according to Reddit users, is “Speak Now.”

According to freshman Sophia Perez, “Her re-recorded music was the right thing to do.”

Roseline Mata agrees with Perez on the re-recordings. “The released music is better for her career because she owns her re-recorded music,” she said. “The new version of her music shows the growth from the beginning of her career to now,” they added.

Ashanti plans to re-record and release her debut album as an independent artist, similar to Taylor Swift. She stated that the re-release will take place in April 2022 and that she will own the rights and masters to the songs.

The trend in re-recorded music is that the rights to the original song are usually owned by the artist’s managers rather than the artist themselves. Artists are usually signed to a label and do not have complete control over their music, but once they part ways with their managers or labels, they are free to do whatever they want with their music.

Re-recorded music is an excellent way for older artists to be remembered and to demonstrate the evolution of their sound. Taylor Swift’s re-recorded music, according to Villanueva, “gives a nostalgic vibe and brings back memories from the time the original song dropped.”

This new genre of music may be the future and key to success for older artists looking to showcase their new sound and advance their careers. Even though this is only the beginning of the re-recorded music trend, it will be interesting to see what the music industry does with this genre.
