There is a focus on the Republican Party— too much of it. With the storming of the Capitol, the history of betrayals and fights, everyone is ignoring a crucial element to the chaos unfolding. The Democratic Party, masking themselves as the “better option”, are only making things worse. Their attempts to appease the other, more volatile side, has made them stepping stones, all open to apathy and laziness.
Without action, there will be no difference between both political parties.
In modern times, the Republican party is known for its love for capitalism and its focus on the economy. The word “conservative” is often associated with said political party, as well, due to their beliefs on equal rights and other practices such as abortion. While the Democratic party seems like the exact opposite, marketing themselves as open for diversity and change, most of these politicians tend to share ideas with Republicans.
When compared on a political compass, such as one offered by The Political Compass website, it is very clear that there is barely any difference from President elect Joe Biden and President Donald Trump.
“We have analysed speeches, manifestos and, crucially, voting records in the compilation of this chart. As the campaign proceeds, the chart will be amended to reflect policy changes and other relevant developments,” members of the website The Political Compass mention in their article titled “The US Presidential Election 2020: Last Lap Reflections”.
Both men are placed in the authoritarian right box, only a few spaces away from each other. Surprisingly enough, President Trump seems to behave in a more authoritarian fashion compared to Biden. Regardless of this, both men who claim to be of different parties with different beliefs are extremely similar when it comes to being compared. Both have a history of racist views in their past— for example, Biden mentioning how he does not want his children growing up with black kids, and Trump calling COVID-19 the “China Virus”.
Democrats are bending over backwards at the moment to keep Republicans happy, and center-orientated Democrats are the ones mainly at fault. If we continue to appease Republicans and allow them to do as they please, we will continue to see events like the one America saw at the Capitol.
The blatant laziness and lack of care some politicians have to fight against the Republicans is what’s destroying America. Many complain that radicalization of political parties is what will kill America, but in the current political environment, all we need right now is a strong left-leaning politician to take over and lead us back in the right direction.
