The Science Behind Release Dates and Ad Promotions

A lot of artists seem to be releasing music around the same time as of lately. Many people and young artists wonder why that is and what they should keep in mind before releasing music. There’s more to it than what meets the eye.

A lot of music is released on Fridays nowadays because that’s when people have the most leisure time to dedicate to music. In other words, that’s when most people will be tuning in.

“The way I see it is that things get released on Fridays because everyone is off of work and have more free time to do other things like parties and such, so the viewer count statistically is higher on weekends than weekdays,” said Justin Franco, a vocalist for the local Florida band Skate Shoes.

One important factor is considering what other artists are going to be releasing music around the same time as yourself. Attracting and keeping viewers in the loop mandates consistency when it comes to content release. The ideal period to release a track or single would count to every four weeks or so for the artist to keep the viewers entertained and engaged.

“Of course that’s not all it is, you want to smartly plan when you release something so you have little to no competition with others,” Franco continued.

In regards to ad promotions, a key component is to engage with one’s audience through social media. As always, timing and schedule matters. With this component, it is especially crucial to consider the media habits of others.

Kids and adults alike are generally free from their designated work station at around late afternoon to the strike of evening. Typically, from 5-7 PM, people start to settle down and look for news, entertainment, and practically anything of surface interest.

The following hour, 7-8 PM, is when the leisurely instincts kick in for a lot of people. During this hour-long period, they look for videos and social media activities. This time is a bright time to post or release advertisements on social media since the young and working generations are both seeking to finish off the day with something perspectively “relaxing” — entertainment.

“With the time you have, shamelessly hype [up] what you’re going to release,” Franco stated.

The science behind release dates and ad promotions is complex. It involves a lot of planning ahead and thinking of innovative ways to promote one’s music. However, it’s not impossible or ever too late to learn and take one’s marketing to the next level.
