From Our October Issue
The Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian exceeded the expectations of many Star Wars fans upon the release of its successful first season. Set just a few years after Return of the Jedi, it displayed a timeline that every fan enjoyed. With the surprising twist at the season finale, the sudden ending has made fans desperate for more.
The actors and actresses that will appear in The Mandalorian season two are Timothy Olyphant (Role Unknown), Katee Sakhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze) a rogue Mandalorian, Temura Morrison (Bobba Fett) the notorious bounty hunter, Michael Bien (Role Unknown), and Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka Tano).
“I’m very excited for that to be confirmed at some point,” she said, adding that the casting would be “a million and one percent because of the fans.” said Rosario Dawson in an interview with IGN.
Ahsoka’s appearance also opens the door for other Rebels characters like Sabine and General Hera Syndulla to appear as well. Granted, Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau made it clear he wanted the first season to feature brand-new characters, so it is possible Ahsoka will be the only familiar character we see for now.
Faveau recently said the show has the potential to shift its point of view away from Djarin to other characters. Perhaps there is enough room in The Mandalorians region of space for some fan favorites.
A common fan favorite that many critics suspect will arrive is Cal Kestis. Cal is a new character that was introduced into the Star Wars timeline in the hit video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The story takes place 5 years after Anakin becomes Darth Vader. At the end of the game, Cal fights Darth Vader and perseveres which shows his strength, and proves that Cal is definitely a great candidate to be in Mandalorian.
As of now, there are a few confirmed happenings that will occur in season two. While Moff Gideon will continue his pursuit of The Child, Djarin tries to find some answers to his new ward’s mysterious origins and a way to get home. As seen in the trailer, this means another trip to Tatooine and journeys to planets of snow and water, and at least one close encounter with the New Republic.
Followers of the series also know that Weathers has suggested Karga’s attempt at becoming a good guy may be laced with some self-interest. Old habits die hard, after all. Meanwhile, Karga and Dune’s attempts to make Navarro an Imp-free haven will no doubt also be a problem that is covered in season 2.
However, the topic that has been making fans itch under their skin is Ahsoka’s importance. In the final moments of Rebels, a Star Wars animated series, the main character Ezra Bridger disappears while fighting alongside Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn. In the series’ closing scene, set years after that battle and sometime after Return of the Jedi, Ahsoka and Sabine agree that they have to bring Ezra home.
Could this mean that Ahsoka Tano will take the spotlight away from Djarin? Will we see any other cool bounty droids like I-88? Will Djarin defeat Moff Gideon and be the rightful owner of the black light-saber? Will we see any more fight scenes with Djarins new jetpack? All that’s left for us Star Wars geeks is to wait for the final season to unravel on October 30th. Until then, May the Force Be With You.
